The Opportunity

Location: Lingan, NS - Lingan Generating Station - On-site

Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power - Power Production

We are currently looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will provide technical support to the various Maintenance and Operations departments, ensuring safety and loss control, ISO14001 Environmental Management System, production, maintenance, and business objectives are met.


Key elements of this role include:

As an Electrical Engineer:

  • You will work in concert with other engineers and will be accountable to support multi-discipline engineering functions as required.
  • You will help execute the plant's capital program including project scoping, project preparation, cost control and project management.
  • You will be involved in shutdown planning and other planning functions as required.
  • You will be responsible for performing engineering analysis and design and developing individual capital project submissions.
  • Participate on equipment reliability teams with other plant engineers and asset management specialists.
  • You will supervise contract crews and external consultants.
  • You will support the maintenance department by reviewing the results of the plants predictive and preventive maintenance programs and providing recommendations on improvements to these programs.
  • You will support the operations department by assisting in process and equipment troubleshooting as required and in developing initiatives to improve reliability.
  • You will provide engineering assistance in support of safety improvements, process improvements, equipment modifications, and cost reduction initiatives.

You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environment management system processes and initiatives.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and are a full member (or eligible for membership) with Engineers NS. Engineer in Training (Electrical) would also be considered.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience as a professional engineer. Experience in electric utility operations is a definite asset.
  • Previous supervisory and/or project management experience.
  • Experience in maintenance shutdown planning will be considered an asset.
  • You must have strong oral and written communication skills, exemplary interpersonal skills and be able to function effectively in a team environment.
  • You will be a self-starter with proven organizational and analytical skills with established skills in managing multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
  • You are required to be available for after-hours consultation and emergency plant work.
  • You must hold a valid driver's license.
