This is an advanced professional level position involving a high degree of responsibility, autonomy and independence. The Recreation Development Specialist II is a member of the Home First Integrated Network and is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, supervising and evaluating comprehensive group and individual therapeutic recreation services. The successful candidate will use extensive knowledge and skills gained through experiences in therapeutic recreation to address the needs of clients as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a goal of sup-porting individuals to live safely and effectively in their community. The Recreation Development Specialist II will ensure person and family centered care that wraps available resources around the individual wherever the individual resides. The successful candidate will establish a preventative, integrated, person and family centered approach driven by individualized assessment of needs and client individual choice to promote aging in place. This position requires maintaining an active clinical caseload, while supporting the spread of the home first philosophy, consulting, and advising community partners, volunteers and other Home First Team members, in the areas of clinical expertise and clinical supervision. The Recreation Development Specialist II reports to the Program Manager responsible for leading the Home First philosophy and maintains accountability to the Regional Manager of Therapeutic Recreation for professional practice issues. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Required qualifications:
• Baccalaureate degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with major course work in Therapeutic Recreation, approved by NL Health Services.
• Minimum: 4 years’ experience, in the last five (5) years, working as a Recreation Development Specialist in a health care setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the areas of assessment, assessment tools, program design/protocols, resident care plans, dementia care, clinical documentation, therapeutic interventions, facilitation techniques, volunteerism, leadership, supervision, workload measurement and group dynamics.
• Demonstrated competencies in problem solving and program planning; be self-motivated, as well as, able to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to educate others and to establish and maintain effective working relationships, as well as, exhibit strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated positive, respectful and sensitive approach to the needs of residents.
• An unrestricted Class IV driver’s license.
• Current BLS certification.
• Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A current member of Newfoundland and Labrador Therapeutic Recreation Association.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
