The Birches Nursing Home is a Community Governed organization that operates a 42 bed Continuing Care Centre. The Recreation Assistant is responsible for assisting the Recreation Programmers in planning, organizing, developing, and delivering group and individual leisure activities for residents of The Birches.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and implementing individual and small group activities for residents.
- Assist in planning and implementing therapeutic programs and interventions for residents who have been diagnosed with a form of dementia.
- Assist in welcoming new residents to The Birches
- Assist residents in attending social and community outings
- Assist in the planning & implementation of a summer garden program
- Assist residents to actively participate in the care of The Birches gardens
- Participate in the inter-disciplinary resident care reviews
- Maintain progress notes for assigned one-to-one interventions
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in a relevant post-secondary program such as: Human Resource Management, Health Sciences, Public Relations, Social Work, Gerontology or Recreation Therapy Studies.
- Possess the following characteristics and skills: strong interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy; effective oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational and planning skills; creative problem-solving and good assessment skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with peers or youth in group settings.
- Previous experience with the elderly preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
This is a Part-Time position of 35 hrs per week for 8 weeks.
Start Date: June 2nd til July 25th, 2025.
Hourly Rate: $15.70
