Job SummaryThe Community Advanced Care Paramedic performs independent advanced medical care and intervention to patients at pre-hospital scene settings. This includes responding to emergencies and routine calls; conducting physical examinations; performing comprehensive assessments and tests; interpreting a variety of tests and procedures; initiating a variety of advanced interventions; and performing other related duties as required. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed through observation, examination of records and reports and the presence or absence of valid complaints. Advanced Community Care Paramedics report directly to the Manager of Community Paramedicine.
The Community Advanced Care Paramedic in this role also preforms community and palliative care and participates in other care initiatives as required. The duties and responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to: collaboration with other health care teams in the community setting including physician and nursing groups; education s of patients, families, and health care professionals on the scope of the Community Paramedicine Program; and collection of patient and key stakeholder feedback to support evolvement of the program.

Regularly moves, lifts, or carries patients or equipment ranging from 10 to 50 pounds and occasionally in excess of 100 lbs. in challenging environments and which is not always conducive to proper ergonomics. Position is rated heavy to very heavy. Constantly bending, stretching, kneeling or pushing/pulling of stretchers (which require up to 35 lbs. of push/pull force or greater per employee as the terrain and weather conditions; sometimes in small and cramped spaces.
The Community Paramedic may be reassigned/required to fill the role as a field paramedic on an ambulance as deemed necessary.
Visual concentration or alertness is required and there is frequent time pressures in the pre-hospital emergency setting.
Willingness to complete additional training/education in community/palliative care as required.
Lack of control over work pace occurs due to unpredictable situations and/or call volume.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an Accredited Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Program from Canadian Medical Association is required.
Current registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Paramedic Registrar (NLPR) and current certification from the Office of the Provincial Medical Director (OPMD) as an ACP at the time of commencing employment.
Possession of a valid Class 4 Driver's License as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Experience as an ACP is required. A minimum two years is preferred.
Experience in community paramedicine/palliative care would be an asset.
Completion of Palliative Care training Pallium LEAP Paramedic course is required upon hire. Pre-employment Physical Capabilities test and medical is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
Ability to travel when required within the Eastern Zone.
