DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
The Finance team is a group of approximately 65 people who lead, direct, and develop strategic and operational planning for the university's financial services, reporting, investing, financing, procurement, payroll, research financial management and budgeting administration. Salary Range: $84,288 - $114,876 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Director, this position is expected to provide well-researched, balanced, and substantiated financial information and expertise to the Director and to the AVP Finance & Comptroller. This position has significant interaction with other corporate and campus specific units such as Information Technology Services (ITS), Development & Donor Relations, Capital Planning & Operations (CP&O), as well as individuals with financial responsibilities in the faculties, departments and non-research centres and institutes.
- Support the preparation of the annual financial statements.
- Prepare regulatory financial reports, which requires evaluating and reviewing financial accounting standards and directing the application of the accounting and reporting of the University to ensure compliance with the standards.
- Continuously review and approve general ledger transactions to ensure proper financial and internal controls.
- Responsible for identifying and taking corrective measures when misstatements are detected, advising departments of the significance of the error, and taking corrective action to fix the classification of those transactions.
- Provide comprehensive guidance and direction on accounting standards, CAUBO guidelines and the Universities Fund accounting to the University community.
- Support the AVP Finance & Comptroller and Director by taking a lead role in the year-end external audit and ensures that the auditors are supplied with all required information and that their queries are properly and promptly answered.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of applicable financial systems within the University's Colleague ERP system to ensure efficient processes; troubleshoot, and problem-solve as required. This position will recommend and implement solutions and best practices, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and relevant internal policies.
- Support the Director in leading a high performing finance team by planning and managing work; implementing technical, organizational and service standards, and developing the characteristics of an effective team.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline with a Chartered Professional Accountant Designation (CPA)
- Minimum of 7 years' experience post CPA designation of financial management experience in a mid to large diversified~ financial environment with supervisory experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations.
Additional Strengths:
- Experience working with fund accounting.
- Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of CaseWare would be an asset
- Knowledge of the latest versions of Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience working in an educational institution would be an asset.
