Chief Financial Officer, Carol Lake Metal Works

Labrador West/Holyrood, NL (Potential for remote or hybrid options)

Carol Lake Metal Works is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and adaptable finance leader to serve as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

About Carol Lake Metal Works

Founded in 2007 and grown into a market leader, Carol Lake Metal Works has proudly served Labrador West and northern Quebec for over 17 years. From its early days with one employee to a current workforce of over 100, the company has remained committed to its core values: family, integrity, and exceptional service.

Carol Lake Metal Works includes deep expertise in welding, machining, hydraulic systems, and metal fabrication. Their relentless focus on improvement, paired with deep local relationships, has positioned them as a trusted partner for both major industrial projects and urgent local needs.

The Role

Reporting to the Founder and working closely with the senior leadership team, the CFO will play a key role in shaping the future of one of Labrador's most successful and community-rooted businesses. Working closely with the President and Controller, the CFO is responsible for the overall financial success of the organization. Leading in alignment with Carol Lake's core values and vision, the CFO will develop financial strategy, processes, and systems that ensure the utmost quality, efficiency, and consistency in the business.

This is more than a numbers role-it's a chance to be part of a company built on hard work, innovation, and trust. As Carol Lake enters its next phase of growth, the CFO will lead financial strategy, improve systems and forecasting, and support a passionate founder who believes deeply in investing in people and delivering quality without compromise.

Key Areas of Leadership and Oversight:

Strategic Foresight and Planning - Serves as a strategic advisor to the Founder, offering financial insights that guide major decisions, growth initiatives, and capital investments. Leads cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and risk mitigation to ensure long-term stability and sustainable growth.

Financial Oversight and Systems Improvement - Works with the Controller to oversee all financial functions including reporting, forecasting, compliance, and audits, with a focus on improving internal systems and structures. Implementing a robust ERP system will be a key priority, supporting process consistency, operational clarity, and growth readiness.

Collaborative Leadership and Team Development - Mentors and coaches the team and broader leadership, empowering staff while introducing best practices. Works closely with department heads, strengthening communication, accountability, and cross-functional understanding.

Relationship Building and External Partnerships - Builds relationships with banks, lenders, auditors, and external consultants, ensuring confidence in the company's financial position. Acts as a trusted representative of Carol Lake's values in financial negotiations and partnerships.

The Ideal Candidate

You are an experienced finance professional with a strategic mindset, entrepreneurial spirit, and a deep appreciation for collaboration. You thrive in fast-paced environments where priorities shift, and you're energized by the opportunity to build, implement, and improve. While you bring strong financial credentials, what truly sets you apart is your ability to lead with humility, build relationships, and bring structure to complexity.

You are a systems thinker who understands the value of consistency, but you're flexible enough to thrive in an environment that's always evolving. You care deeply about people and culture, and you approach leadership as a partner, a critical second look on new ideas, and a problem-solver. Whether you're refining a process, mentoring a colleague, or supporting a founder, your work is rooted in care, clarity, and commitment.

Qualifications and Experience

While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are desirable and will be used to compare candidates.

  • A CPA designation and experience leading financial operations.
  • Experience in a growing, entrepreneurial business.
  • Experience leading software (e.g. ERP) implementations and building financial systems.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and coach staff in a collaborative environment.
  • Comfort working directly with owners/founders and in family business contexts.
  • Track record of strong cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in accessible, actionable ways.

Skills and Attributes

  • A people-first leader who builds trust and relationships across teams.
  • Highly organized and able to bring clarity to ambiguity.
  • Confident leader with capacity to provide perspective and redirect in supportive ways.
  • Skilled at both strategic foresight and operational detail.
  • A resilient and adaptable team player with a sense of humour.
  • Strong judgment and prioritization skills-knows what to focus on and when.
  • Comfortable navigating change, improving processes, and driving results.
  • Committed to the values and culture that make Carol Lake a special place to work.
