Job SummaryUnder the guidance of the Director – Legal Services, this position provides legal services to all departments of NLHS. This position provides extensive advice in the area of health law, including mental health and addictions, elder law, adult protection and consent and capacity and legal advice on financial matters. Strong litigation experience and skills are required for this position as representation of NLHS matters before the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador is required.
Job Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Law is required.
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years' experience of legal practice evidencing strong litigation, analytical and negotiation skills is required
Experience appearing before court and/or administrative tribunals.
Equivalent experience and training may be considered.
Experience in the areas of health law, elder law and consent and capacity issues is an asset.

A required strong understanding of general legal principles and an ability to maintain a diverse legal practice.
High level of interpersonal, negotiation, and networking skills in order to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and with all external stakeholders.

Demonstrated superior oral and written communication skills.
The candidate should have demonstrated exceptional leadership, teamwork, analytical, litigation and communication skills.

Must be eligible for membership or be an active member, in good standing, with the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
