Due to an upcoming retirement, we are recruiting for a Collection Officer to join our team.
The Collection Officer responds to public inquiries, negotiates schedules for payment with residential and commercial ratepayers, connects individuals with government funding or support programs, works with partners such as PVSC, lawyers, real estate agents, government agencies, and manages Tax Sale activities according to the Municipal Government Act.
The East Hants philosophy towards collection services is customer-service oriented. We work closely with individuals during difficult financial times, provide non-judgemental support and guidance through the process of making payments, and we connect people to services that can provide help.
What you can offer:
- You have completed a two-year post secondary program in a business administration and accounting discipline and have previous related experience, or a combination of related education and experience.
- Experience in collections, preferably in a public sector environment.
- You are very comfortable with using MS Office at an advanced level; Familiarity with SAP or related financial management systems would be an asset.
- Strong understanding of collection practices, provisions of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), Assessment Act, and other relevant legislation that governs taxation and collections in a local government setting; ability to interpret the various acts and regulations relevant to municipal operations and water utilities
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- You thrive in a customer-service oriented environment, and are comfortable with managing competing and multiple priorities throughout the day, including responding to inquiries in person, by phone, and email.
- You have experience and a solid understanding of working with and managing confidential information.
- You have a solid understanding of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in a customer service-focused environment.

Annual Salary: $59,589- $74,486
