POSITION: IPAC Nurse (RN - Infection Prevention and Control) LOCATION: Yarmouth, NS

Villa Saint-Joseph du Lac, located in Yarmouth NS, is home to 79 long-term care Residents. We are a
provincially funded, non-profit organization that provides 24/7 care. Villa Saint-Joseph has a
strong interprofessional team and a new facility (opened in 2015) which allows us to promote a
safe, clean, home-like environment for our Resident and care partners.
Position Scope:
Under the direction of the Director of Care, Assistant Director of Care and the Administrator, the
Infection Contro Nurse is responsible for keeping up to date on current IPAC Guidelines and
ascting as a resource for staff through the implementation of these guidelines.
Responsibilities:
• Take the lead in meetings during outbreak situations
• Act as a contact for Public Health (receiving communication, education tools, guideline documents
and completing reports as required)
• Maintain contact with Western Zone IPAC Nurse and network with other LTC Infection Control
Nurses
• Research best practices in IPAC
• Maintain up to date IPAC resource files
• Assist with Covid-19 swabbing of residents as needed
• Support all departments with implementation of infection control guidelines
• Participate in relevant meetings and educational opportunities
• Assist in policy development as requested
• Provide education for staff as required
These are the basic and prime duties of this position. Related and allied duties can and will be
assigned from time to me as they may become necessary to the operation of the home.
Qualifications:
• Currently registered with NSCN
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Current certification in CPR and First Aid
• Past Long-term Care experience is an asset
• Infection control courses/certificates are an asset
