We are looking for a dynamic individual to be a part of our team for the position of Recreation Therapy Assistant - Summer Student, Bedford Campus.

Reporting to the Lead, Recreation Therapist, an ideal candidate must have:

Qualifications:

• Must be a student taking Therapeutic Recreation at either the university or college level.
• Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act(1). , and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
• Experience in the delivery of recreational/leisure programs with a senior population would be an asset

Tasks and Responsibilities (Mandatory):

• To assist seniors living in care to participate in daily therapeutic recreation programs including music and art based activities.
• To maximize resident opportunities to enjoy the outdoors through recreational programs in our outdoor spaces, 1:1 interventions.
• Based on the needs of the facility, the youth will assist in filling gaps arising from non-replaced staff vacations.

During this summer work experience, the youth will develop skills in

• Client service
• Teamwork
• Communication

The youth will be part of the recreation therapy team comprised of recreation programmers and Recreation Therapists. They will also work with the broader interdisciplinary team and learn the importance of team collaboration in the provision of resident programs. They will gain experience in shifting priorities, taking on various team roles including program planner. The youth will contribute to the team goals and responding with new approaches as needed to meet team goals.

Salary: $16.30 per hour

Hours: 70 hours bi-weekly (Varied shifts)

Start Date: June 2, 2025

End Date: July 27, 2025
