Infection Control & Wound Resource / Neighborhood Manager

Location: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia
Position Type: Full-Time Regular

The Infection Control & Wound Resource / Neighborhood Manager plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of residents by overseeing best practices in infection prevention, wound management, and neighborhood care delivery. This role champions quality improvement, staff mentorship, and a resident-centered approach - fostering a culture of excellence, compassion, and continuous learning within the long-term care setting. As Neighborhood Manager, this individual provides leadership, oversight, and performance management for RNs, LPNs, CCAs, SSWs, and LTCAs - ensuring high standards of care and team cohesion across the neighborhood.

Key responsibilities

Wound Care and Infection Control

  • Oversee all infection prevention and control efforts, including:
  1. Implementing and regularly updating evidence-informed guidelines and procedures.
  2. Tracking resident vaccinations and coordinating outbreak responses.
  3. Liaising with physicians, specialists, and public health authorities as needed.
  4. Auditing infection control practices and ensuring adequate supply availability.
  • Chair the Wound Care Committee and lead regular meetings.
  • Provide clinical consultation and education to staff on wound care best practices.
  • Collaborate with wound care specialists to support individualized care plans.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and advisor in wound management.
  • Develop and maintain interRAI documentation related to wound care.
  • Coach and mentor staff in evidence-based wound care techniques.
  • Coordinate timely ordering and management of wound care supplies.

Resident Care Management

• Ensure residents' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs are consistently met.

• Collaborate with neighborhood staff, interdisciplinary teams, and departments to enrich resident care.

• Act as the escalation point for resident and family concerns, ensuring timely and compassionate resolution.

• Facilitate effective communication among residents, families, and healthcare professionals.

Leadership & Staff Management

• Provide leadership and oversight to RNs, LPNs, CCAs, SSWs, and LTCAs within the assigned neighborhood.

• Monitor and support staff performance through audits, huddles, mentorship, and formal appraisals.

• Address and follow up on incident reports and performance concerns professionally and effectively.

• Foster a respectful, inclusive, and positive work culture that supports collaboration across disciplines.

• Support recruitment efforts and contribute to neighborhood performance planning and goal setting.

• Oversee the onboarding and training of new staff; escalate concerns to the DOC, ADOC, or appropriate managers as necessary.

• Guide staff in delivering resident-centered care aligned with organizational standards and best practices.

• Promote continuous learning and professional development.

• Provide leadership coverage as needed, including roles such as ADOC, Care Navigator, or Infection Control.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Ensure adherence to licensing standards, internal policies, and clinical best practices.

• Conduct audits and contribute to quality assurance and improvement initiatives.

• Support leadership in implementing policies and participating in workforce planning.

• Follow and promote the organization's Health and Safety policies and comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE

· Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia.

· 3 years leadership/management experience

· Proven leadership experience and a commitment to continuous learning.

· Willingness to upgrade and maintain qualifications as required by evolving job demands.

· Genuine passion for engaging with residents, enhancing their social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs.

· Ability to work harmoniously within a multidisciplinary team, lead and support the Neighborhood Team, and uphold the organization's values and philosophy.

· Adherence to professional competencies, including caring and respectful behavior, therapeutic relationships, strong clinical and assessment skills, and communication skills

· Self-directed, resilient to change, and capable of facilitating, resolving conflicts, and leading projects and programs. While maintaining excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills.

· Reliability and availability to attend work regularly.

· Well-organized, able to initiate workload independently, while collaborating closely with the Neighborhood Team, Director of Care, managers, and other departments.

· Commitment to promoting and supporting a positive work environment while maintaining strict confidentiality.

· Excellence in computer skills, including experience with Inter-Rai /Civica/Momentum

· Agreement to have the role revised and restructured based on operational requirements.

· Ability to manage conflicts effectively and build teams

· Commitment to employment equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO HAVE

· Long Term Care experience

· Possession of valid CPR, and First Aid Certificates.

· Leadership courses (Team building Training / People Centered Training)

· Quality Systems methodology training and experience (i.e lean)

· Familiar working in a unionized environment
