Meridia is happy to partner with the Municipality of Victoria County, seeking a skilled and community-minded Municipal Engineer/Technologist to help shape and maintain the infrastructure that supports life in their unique and welcoming region.
Role Description
Reporting to the Manager of Public Works the Municipal Engineer/Technologist will be responsible for supporting the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of public infrastructure across the Municipality. This includes acting as a project manager on capital and operating projects, preparing and reviewing technical documents, and conducting site inspections to ensure quality and compliance with regulatory and budgetary guidelines.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating and supporting capital and operating projects across Victoria County, preparing engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Leading the delivery of the new wastewater system capital project.
- Conducting field inspections to ensure project quality, safety, and compliance with established regulations.
- Reviewing documentation and construction progress, as well as assisting with project management and contract administration.
- Supporting the development and implementation of a county-wide asset management plan.
- Assisting with the operation and maintenance of municipal water systems and infrastructure assets.
- Providing guidance and support for accessibility-related infrastructure improvements.
- Coordinating facility maintenance projects across all municipal buildings and assets.
- Supporting staff by serving as a technical resource for engineering matters and encouraging best practices.
- Ensuring public works activities are executed effectively and in alignment with municipal standards.
Your Qualifications
You are a detail-oriented Engineer or Technologist with strong technical, organizational, and communication skills. You enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges and have the ability to work independently or as part of a team. With a blend of field and office experience, you are equally comfortable with hands-on site inspections as you are preparing tenders and technical documentation.
Your ideal qualifications include:
- A bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering; an equivalent combination of varying education and experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in public works, municipal engineering, government, or related field.
- Experience in infrastructure project coordination, contract administration, and field inspections.
- Effective problem-solving, strategic analysis, planning, and implementation skills.
- Self-motivated and with an ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to obtain water/wastewater Operator-in-Training (OIT) certification.
- A valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver's License is required.
