Job Title: Mental Wellness Outreach Officer I - Full time, One Year (With Possibility of Extension)
Location of Position: Corner Brook or Stephenville
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $42,500. /per annum
Job Description: The Mental Wellness Outreach Officer supports the Qalipu First Nation with the development and delivery of mental health and wellness programs or materials that utilize cultural, spiritual, and conventional evidence-based practices to address the wholistic health of individuals, families, and the community. Programs will include a strong focus on cultural and spiritual aspects while including conventional wellness practices to emphasize life promotion, community cohesion, prosocial behavior, empowerment, and personal resilience. Additional areas of focus will include programming related to specific areas such as violence prevention. The incumbent will collaborate with existing organization departments, the community, service providers, and partnering organizations to facilitate regular community activities, wellness groups, and special wellness events.
Responsibilities:
· Assist in the development of mental wellness related programming.
· Facilitate mental wellness programming which utilizes both cultural and conventional evidence-based frameworks. This includes but is not limited to longer term programs including pilot programs, workshops, regular mental health related group meetings, presentations, special event activities, and educational sessions.
· Develop information materials related to mental wellness.
· Co-develop and co-facilitate programming with other Qalipu First Nation organization departments.
· Coordinate services from local knowledge keepers and Elders to inform and facilitate cultural aspects of mental wellness programs.
· Coordinate services from professionals as needed to support wellness programs such as formal group programs in accordance with best practices and provincial regulations.
· Collect and maintain statistics and documentation for evaluation and reporting purposes.
· Participate in applicable committees and working groups.
· Contribute to and support the development of practice standards, procedures, and tools that include both cultural and conventional evidence-based approaches.
· Ensure files are stored and maintained as per the Canadian Privacy Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the Qalipu Electronic Records Management System, and Quality Management Protocols for the Health and Wellness division team.
· Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree related to social work, psychology, social justice, community leadership, community studies, or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
Experience: A minimum of one year experience related to the mental wellness field, program or project development, the delivery of programs, community outreach, facilitation, or group leadership. Experience and abilities related to wellness activities, cultural activities, and on-the-land activities is an asset.
Working Conditions: This is primarily an office-based position with duties predominantly met during regular working hours. However, since many programs and events are held after regular working hours within multiple regions, some travel and flexibility of work schedule and work environment will be required depending on the programming and initiatives undertaken.

Annual Leave: FT employees - Three weeks per year.
Statutory and Non-Statutory Holidays: Employees are entitled to 13 days off to cover Statutory and Non-statutory holidays per year.
Summer Office Hours: Office hours during the summer months are from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The schedule starts the first long weekend in April and continues until the last week of September.
Christmas Break: The office closes during the Christmas break; this is an added bonus that employees are entitled to.
Family & Medical Leave: Twelve paid sick and family medical days per year.
Under 2 hours Medical Appointment: Employees may attend an appointment of less than 2 hours with no deductions to Sick and Family Medical.
Discretionary Bereavement: One day off per year for the death of a relative not included as immediate family, a close friend or neighbor.
Volunteer Program: Employees may volunteer outside of the organization up to 21 hours per
year.
