Job SummaryThe Psychiatric Licensed Practical Nurse (PLPN) III is responsible to provide case management, practical mental health nursing, therapeutic, and supportive care in the assessment process; assist with the implementation of care plans; collaborate with members of the inter-professional Neuropsychiatry team and contribute to the treatment of psychiatric patients.
Participates in the development, implementation, standards of care, and quality initiatives, and evaluation of policies and procedures; and participates on committees and special projects. Reporting to the Program Manager of Neuropsychiatry, Mental Health and Addictions Program, the successful applicant will provide low intensity case management support and monitoring to individuals receiving housing and support subsidies through the MHA Housing Division. The position will be responsible for working with individuals in the community to assess, recommend and implement community mental health supports that may be needed to maintain wellness in the community. The position functions with a high degree of autonomy and independence.

Physical exertion and handling objects less than 10 lbs. and occasionally move, push/pull objects or clients over 50 lbs.
Visual concentration is required to observe clients for physical changes or abnormal behaviour and auditory concentration is required for communication purposes. Other sensory demands include smell (may be used to detect illegal substances, alcohol, or personal hygiene issues).
A high level of alertness and concentration is required when working alone in the community. There are time pressures and deadlines to respond to crisis and interruptions occur as patients' behaviours and situations are unpredictable. There is lack of control over the work pace.
Precision is required when observing a client's condition, documenting a patient's information, administering medications, etc.
Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program.
Current licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL).
Completion of a Post Basic Psychiatric LPN Diploma.
One-year recent experience (within the last five) in Adult Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Acute Care Psychiatry or Ambulatory/ Community Care Psychiatry.
Knowledge of specific psychiatric approaches, such as supportive counselling, skills teaching, crisis intervention.
Demonstrated communication skills, team collaboration, interpersonal skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Use of a private vehicle is a condition of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
