Merchandising Instructional Designer (6-month contract)

Position Overview:

The Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for the sourcing, design and development of training solutions to meet the developmental objectives of targeted audiences within merchandising. This includes creating eLearning walkthroughs, job aids/performance support tools, and reference materials. Experience with ADDIE and agile project management is required. The ID maintains strong relationships with the leaders and stakeholders within the client group(s) and is a primary point of contact. The ID should have a high level of comfort in navigating a fluid business environment to design and develop solutions to best meet the needs of internal clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Actionable Deliverable

  • 80% Design and develop learning solution
  • 15% Interact with Client Group(s) vendors
  • 5% Other tasks / activities as assigned
  • Interact with stakeholders, SMEs/cross functional partners and Talent & Development Manager
  • Assist in the recommendation of learning solutions that meet Client Group(s) business objectives
  • Support Project Management of learning solutions from project intake to close
  • Source relevant learning content from SMEs &/or other appropriate sources
  • Design and develop appropriate blended learning solutions (eLearning, mLearning, VILT, Self-paced, ILT, Performance Support, etc.)
  • Support Train the Trainer sessions to support effective instruction
  • Upload and perform quality assurance and troubleshooting of learning content on The Home Depot Learning Management System
  • Assist in the evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of implemented learning solutions

  • Proficient knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories
  • Proficiency with software including Microsoft Office and standard eLearning development tools
  • Advanced knowledge of project management principles
  • Video editing experience is an asset
  • Experience with SharePoint is an asset
  • Experience with SAP software systems is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • This position reports to Manager, Talent & Development for Merchandising
  • This position has no direct reports.

Travel Requirements:

  • Frequent travel to SSC

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Hybrid Work:

  • Indepedent

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Education:

  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience), preferably in a learning-related field

Minimum Years of Work Experience:

  • 3-5 years' experience in an instructional design role or equivalent
  • 3-5 years' experience developing eLearning and VILT content

Minimum Leadership Experience:

  • None

  • None
