The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mines Technical Services Manager - Central to join our Technical Services & Engineering team in Sudbury. Relocation will be required for this role. This is a permanent position.

As a Mines Technical Services Manager, you will oversee centralized planning and reporting, annual, quarterly, and monthly budget forecasts, and Ontario wide consolidation. The role also includes Ontario wide standards, surface process plant forecasting, strategic working with other mining company stakeholders within Ontario and Ontario wide continuous improvement.

Additionally, in this position you will:

Leadership and Development: Lead and coach all mine technical services personnel, including engineering, geology, ground control, ventilation, and union/nonunion staff; mentor and develop the technical team to meet and improve performance expectations.

Technical Implementation and Integration: Implement and sustain VPS and Health Safety systems while integrating input from internal stakeholders across operations, geology, maintenance, and long-range planning.

Budget and Oversight: Manage mine technical services capital and operating budgets; oversee safety practices through the MTS-site Safety Tracker and ensure quality of technical work packages adhering to regulatory standards.

Operational and Technical Support: Provide operational support such as seismic management, surveying, drill/blast packages, ventilation monitoring, geological modeling, and database management.

Audits and Government Relations: Lead monthly KPI reporting, internal audits, Ministry of Labour visits, and address community concerns regarding mine activities. Develop standards, manage mine and metal output forecasting and reporting for Ontario to the wider business.

Resource Management and Compliance: Assess technical packages for wider review, challenge current processes and support incident management and MOL documentation.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate Mine Engineering or Geology Degree.
  • Eligible for registration as Professional Engineer or Geologist within Ontario.

Experience:

10-15 years' experience in a similar role.

Skills:

  • High level of understanding of underground mining activities including mine design and technology.
  • Scheduling and design of highly seismic mines
  • Knowledge of, EPS, MineCAD, Deswick. PowerBI and SAP.
  • Experience with the performance of deviation analysis.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Mentorship and coaching abilities required for leading and managing a large technical team.
  • Effective and timely decision-making skills that prioritize health, safety, the environment, and sustainability.
  • Thorough understanding of financial evaluation techniques.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to drive change and align groups to new processes and strategies
