The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Occupational Hygiene, to join our Health, Safety, Environment, & Risk team in Toronto.
This is a permanent position located in Canada (Toronto/Sudbury) or Brazil ( Belo Horizonte) depending on the current location of the successful candidate.
As a Senior Specialist, Occupational Hygiene, you will define and implement comprehensive Occupational Hygiene criteria, delivering expert technical advice to establish and maintain a healthy work environment. Your experience and skills will allow you to ensure regulatory compliance and addresses the concerns of internal and external stakeholders.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Lead the occupational hygiene aspects in developing the Occupational Health Strategy and Goals and develop and support the implementation of Occupational Hygiene standards and guidelines.
- Monitor health risk trends and controls, benchmark with external companies, and propose and conduct critical reviews of Health key performance indicators.
- Advise Vale operations on engineering controls (EPC) and personal protective equipment (PPE) for OH risks and ensure compliance with local regulations and VBM standards.
- Define Occupational Hygiene competencies by site considering size and complexity
- Define minimum requirements for Occupational Hygiene software and its integrated systems/processes (HR, Procurement, etc.)
- Represent VBM in national and international Occupational Hygiene technical forums, identifying best practices that can be shared/disseminated within VBM.
About You
Education:
- Master's degree in relevant discipline.
- Must be a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) / Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent.
Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
Skills:
- Proficient in occupational hygiene principles and relevant international/local standards.
- Proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese is desired
- Knowledgeable in identifying health risk factors and implementing effective controls.
- Skilled in data analysis and trending to support decision-making.
- Strong communication and influencing abilities; open and transparent in interactions.
- Effective problem-solving skills to address workplace challenges.
- Ability to work collaboratively and actively listen to team members.
- Competent in managing projects from inception to completion.
- Capable of strategic thinking with a global perspective.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing environments and situations.
- Meticulous attention to detail in all tasks.
- Proactive in identifying and managing risks.
- Demonstrates empathy and respect in all professional interactions.
