Definition of work:The Pharmacy Technician is responsible and accountable for the technical functions of pharmacy operations. Duties include measuring, packaging & labelling pharmaceuticals, re-stocking nursing units, filling and checking prescriptions, delivering narcotics and other medications, preparation of IV solutions including chemotherapy, ordering from pharmaceutical companies, compounding, record keeping/maintenance for narcotics and other medications, BPMH collections and other assigned duties. Work is challenging and requires accuracy. Computer skills are required to perform most duties. The Pharmacy Technician may also be required to perform OH&S duties related to the new hazardous drugs standards. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Physical Demands:
Light to Medium: Occasional lifting or carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.; frequently handling items 20 lbs. or less. Work in this position requires a significant amount of walking and the use of light whole-body push/pull force. Weekend work
may be required.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from High School with a diploma recognized by the Newfound-land and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
• Graduation from a recognized and accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or successfully completed the Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program.
• Current registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board.
• Demonstrated experience with unit dose, computerized top-up programs and Meditech Computer Systems.
• Demonstrated Keyboarding skills and computer experience.
• Demonstrated high level of alertness and concentration when performing tasks.
• Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritize.

• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
