GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Intermediate / Senior Water Resources Engineer with experience in Dams to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a fulltime Intermediate / Senior Water Resources Engineer with expertise in Dams in Eastern Canada. The successful candidate may be based in one of our existing office locations across Atlantic Canada and Ontario or may work remotely if located elsewhere.
Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or water resources engineering; a Masters or Doctorate degree is considered an asset.
  • Registration or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) by a provincial association in Eastern Canada.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience for Intermediate level, or 10+ years of relevant experience for Senior level.
  • Demonstrated experience in dam engineering, including design, analysis, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with Dam Safety Reviews and Flood Studies, including hydrologic assessments, dam break analysis, consequence assessments, and inundation mapping.
  • Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and dam safety frameworks including the CDA Guidelines.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software programs (e.g., HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS), and design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and GIS packages.
  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills (English).
  • Ability to manage tasks or projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally for site visits

Main Duties:

  • Lead and/or support the design, analysis, and rehabilitation of dams and hydraulic structures (e.g., spillways, intakes, outlets, channels)
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS) for dam safety reviews and flood studies.
  • Contribute to or lead Dam Safety Reviews, hazard classification assessments, and consequence analyses.
  • Prepare technical reports and inundation maps, and contribute to preparation of design drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and participate in internal knowledge-sharing.
  • Support proposal preparation and contribute to business development efforts, depending on experience level.

Position:

  • Full time salaried position.
  • Must reside in Eastern Canada.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
