RECREATION PROGRAMMER
Temporary Part Time (.9)
Under the guidance of the Director of Recreation and Volunteer Services, the Recreation Programmer will develop, implement, document, and evaluate a variety of diversified recreational programs and services. The Recreation Programmer's scope of responsibilities will include residents from the Enhanced Unit as well as those with responsive behaviors in addition to the rest of the resident population who have a variety of diverse health conditions.
Recreation Programmer position to commence May 1st, 2025, with an approximate end date of August 2025
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
· Participates in resident leisure assessments and goal/objective setting in collaboration with the Director of Recreation and Volunteer Services to best meet the needs of the residents.
· Develops, delivers, and evaluates individual and group recreation programs.
· Monitors the residents' involvement and adapts programs to ensure achievement of optimal outcomes consistent with the residents' goals and objectives.
· Ensures accurate daily records of all individual and group programs are electronically recorded in the Activity Pro.
· Utilizes effective time management skills.
· Orients & supervises new staff, students, and volunteers as required.
· Remains current on residents' statuses by reading daily e-care 24-hour report and collaborates with recreation staff and Director regarding resident issues.
· Maintains a safe environment for programs and follows risk management procedures for residents participating in programs.
· Maintains working relationships with other departments in the facility and local community organizations for the benefit of the residents.
· Participates in applicable in-service and educational sessions for continued professional development.
· Maintains membership in Nova Scotia Therapeutic Recreation Association (NSTRA) and remains current in NSTRA affairs.
· Performs other related duties as required and as directed by Director of Recreation and Volunteer Services (fundraising, presentations, etc.)
· Valid Class 5 license and is comfortable loading and driving facility bus for regular recreation outings.
· Physically able to maneuver resident in a wheelchair within the community for long durations in a variety of terrains in relation to a seasonally offered program.
· Experienced with social media and will act as an administrator on the facility's Facebook page.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Must have a Recreation Diploma Program from NSCC, NSTRA equivalent
· Must have education and/or experience programming for individuals with Dementia
· Training in physical activity facilitation techniques preferred
HOURS OF WORK
· 72 hours biweekly
Rate of Pay: As per Union Contract
