Job Information and Responsibilities
The Department of Languages and Cultures at Saint Mary's University invites applications for a contractually limited two-year appointment in Ancient Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants must hold a PhD in Classics, Classical Archaeology, Art History, or Ancient History. We are seeking candidates who are able to teach courses in ancient history, Classical civilization, Latin, art, and archeology, with a demonstrated record of effectiveness in university teaching, and who will support courses at all levels of our undergraduate program. Alongside a full-time teaching assignment, the successful candidate will be expected to advise students and participate actively in the intellectual life of the department. The appointment will commence September 1, 2025.

Interested candidates have to email two PDF files, one of which presents a letter of application and a curriculum vitae containing the names of three referees (from whom the department will solicit letters directly, if needed). A separate PDF file should present (i) a research dossier consisting of a research statement and two writing samples, and (ii) a teaching dossier consisting of a statement of teaching philosophy and recent summative reports of official teaching evaluations. Our university policy also requires an original of the official transcript (attesting a Ph.D. degree) - the candidates are kindly asked to make necessary arrangements for the transcript to be sent directly to the Department's Chair by the granting institution.
