Salary Range: $60,114 - $78,146
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Director of Energy and Sustainability, the Manager of Sustainability advocates advancing UNB's strategic goal to become a leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship across Canadian universities while working toward a carbon-neutral future. The Sustainability Manager supports both campuses and works collaboratively and provides resources to staff, faculty, and students from all departments, units, and faculties on campus to improve the Sustainability of their respective units to meet institutional goals.
- Champion overall leadership, development, and direction of all sustainability initiatives that support the advancement of UNB and CP&O Strategic plans, including but not limited to UNB's Strategic Plan, the Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), and Campus Sustainability Plans (CSPs) across the institution.
- Research and identify sustainability opportunities, initiatives, innovations, and strategies that could be implemented at UNB. Assess their effectiveness and feasibility.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert and make recommendations on strengthening, developing, re-aligning, and terminating current initiatives.
- Work with the Work with the appropriate committees including President's Advisory Committee on Sustainability (PACS) to provide technical and policy advice regarding sustainability.
- Increase awareness of UNB's sustainability initiatives and involvement with the greater community, aligning UNB with municipal, provincial, and federal targets and initiatives.
- Direct annual operational and communications plans for UNB Sustainability regarding events, projects, and programming. Oversee social media platforms.
- Oversee the education of staff, faculty, students, and other members of the university community to understand issues regarding sustainability. Encourage the adoption of behaviours that will promote a sustainable institution.
- Organize seminars, workshops, and events that will raise awareness and involvement from the university community.
- Work with Communications & Marketing to secure coverage of sustainability initiatives and serve as a primary contact for the media on sustainability issues.
- Lead the sustainability team to develop programs and strategies that achieve prescribed goals, actions, and metrics.
- Collect data required to support ongoing certification systems as required (i.e., AASHE STARS, THE Impact, etc.) and all other sustainability-related data required.
- Track sustainability progress at UNB for the Board of Governors and Senate, and periodically report updates to the President's office and senior administration
- Determine the required resources necessary to achieve the goals set out in the established sustainability plans of the institution and ensure optimum resource utilization.
- Identify, pursue and manage grant funding, rebate programs and other savings programs.
- Manage the operating budget effectively to meet the sustainable goals of the institution.
- Recruit, hire, train, and lead part-time and full-time staff and students.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 5-7 years' experience in sustainability, including 2-3 years of management and/or project management experience.
