DUTIES
The Clinic Director will develop and oversee the operation of the Effective Psychological Interventions (EPI) Centre, and provide clinical supervision to graduate students. The successful applicant will report to the Psychology Department Head and work closely with the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) and faculty members in the program in the administration and operation of the EPI Centre.
Key accountabilities include operations management, program evaluation, marketing and strategic planning, and clinical training and supervision of clinical services provided by students. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing EPI Centre guidelines and procedures, including annual updates of the EPI Centre Policies and Procedures Manual, with assistance from the DCT and Clinical faculty; preparing and implementing annual EPI Centre budget; developing a strong working knowledge of the video-recording and client information systems and troubleshooting any issues with technical suppliers or vendors; ensuring that Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) graduate students operate in accordance with federal and provincial legislation and regulations, professional standards, professional ethics, and established EPI Centre policies and procedures; overseeing and assigning clients to PsyD students, balancing the complexity of the client's needs with the student's level and training needs; managing any issues that may arise with clients and PsyD students; overseeing the EPI Centre client database and managing the waiting list with assistance from the PsyD Administrative Assistant; incorporating necessary changes or updates into EPI Centre policies and procedures; ensuring the necessary infrastructure is appropriate and available to support the current and future clinical, teaching, and research activities within the EPI Centre, in coordination with the DCT. The incumbent should be available in client or student emergencies as needed and keep abreast of developments in relevant federal and provincial legislation, professional standards, professional ethics, and EPI Centre policies relevant to the provision of psychological services and, when necessary.
In program evaluation, the Clinic Director will develop and implement clinical data collection and management procedures, including overseeing the EPI Centre database, and preparing an annual report summarizing key data from the past year on client numbers, symptom response, and satisfaction with EPI Centre services.
Duties related to marketing and strategic planning include overseeing and developing the EPI Centre website and posting updates on new developments at the Centre in the EPI Centre, with assistance from the PsyD Administrative Assistant; promoting the EPI Centre by overseeing advertising of EPI Centre services and initiating ways to keep our profile current; establishing and maintaining relationships with referring agencies and other professionals in the community, including psychologists, physicians, school personnel, and other mental health professionals on and off campus to ensure appropriate client flow and develop and maintain community relations; participating in strategic planning meetings with the DCT and Clinical faculty and relevant stakeholders; facilitating strategic growth and development by assisting in the preparation of proposals and reports; developing strategies to improve and expand the EPI Centre's training, and research mandates; and assisting with the preparation of press releases and other publicity materials.
The Director will be directly training and supervising PsyD students in the following activities: screening assessments; educational, diagnostic, cognitive and or vocational assessments; psychological intervention; and student supervision of junior learners. The Director will also continue the development of the PsyD program curriculum and participate in Clinical Faculty meetings regarding clinical training, in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Training and Clinical faculty; participate in weekly client conferences, seminars, and clinical workshops, in collaboration with Clinical faculty; provide and initiate other relevant clinical training experiences and participate in the process of selecting PsyD students and hiring faculty (e.g., by meeting with PsyD applicants, by attending faculty applicant job talks and providing feedback to the Area); stay informed of developments in training models, goals, and measurements for professional competencies in Clinical Psychology; support the DCT in regular updates to training models, goals, and measurements within the PsyD program
Further responsibilities include assigning clients to therapists and therapists to supervisors; maintaining the EPI Centre database; managing the EPI Centre wait-lists, and processing referrals; and performing other related duties as required. The Director will work with the DCT, the Clinical Practicum Coordinator, Clinical Area faculty, and PsyD students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (minimum 3 years) in conducting therapy with adults, with expertise in at least one treatment modality and experience with cognitive, intellectual, diagnostic, and personality assessment of adults; completion of a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology is required. The incumbent must be registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board or be eligible to be registered within the first year of appointment. The successful applicant will have proven oral and written communication skills, exceptional interpersonal abilities, and a demonstrated capacity to foster a collaborative and positive working environment. The candidate should be capable of working independently and collegially, coordinating and monitoring diverse clinical activities, and managing complex interpersonal situations effectively. The ability to provide constructive, timely feedback to students is essential for this role. Preference will be given to applicants who have knowledge of health setting business management principles, experience in program evaluation, and an understanding of university structures and procedures. Additional experience with children and/or adolescents will be an asset.
