Team Lead, Indigenous Relations

Summary:

The Team Lead is responsible to work with internal and external parties to facilitate and support building and maintaining respectful and positive relationships. Responsible for compliance monitoring and supporting the implementation of NL Hydro relationships and agreements with Indigenous Governments and organizations and other groups, as required. This position requires direct engagement with Indigenous peoples and other relevant stakeholders to ensure open respectful communication processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous peoples and other relevant stakeholders through direct engagement
  • Lead and support solution-based strategies with internal and external responsible parties as pertaining to Indigenous relations
  • Develop and execute the implementation plans, and develop and maintain system for monitoring, and reporting on compliance for Hydro, its partners and its contractors
  • Support the implementation and compliance monitoring of Indigenous relationship agreements as required
  • Support the development of a LCP Benefits Strategy implementation plan with internal and external responsible parties, specifically relating to potential developments on the Churchill River, and support the maintenance of systems utilized for compliance monitoring for Hydro and its partners
  • Lead the production of mandated reports associated with executed agreements
  • Liaise with relevant Indigenous peoples and other relevant stakeholders, to support positive relationship and effective agreement implementation
  • Participate/Lead committees as required
  • Annually review implementation plans and make recommendations for improvement
  • Provide advice and guidance to Hydro personnel, partners, and contractors regarding effective and efficient incorporation of respectful Indigenous relations and agreement commitments in business execution
  • Ensure internal and external responsible parties are aware of relevant commitments and monitor compliance and mitigate noncompliance issues as required
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

The incumbent will have an undergraduate degree, with an in-depth knowledge and experience of indigenous peoples, stakeholders and relevant processes. Experience on large-scale projects is considered an asset. You are expected to have a minimum of 5 years experience with progressive responsibility in managing compliance and implementation of Indigenous relationship agreements and Provincial Industrial benefits strategies. You have Specific knowledge of and experience engaging with Indigenous groups in Newfoundland & Labrador, as well as knowledge of labour relations/human resources and procurement processes associated with large scale projects is desirable.
