Definition of Work:Diesel Mechanic/Generator Technician will maintain, inspect, and repair generators, associated emergency diesel engines and related equipment to ensure their efficient and safe operation. This may involve troubleshooting, testing, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic components and systems. The Technician must also be able to work from blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and manuals to identify and correct defects in generators and related equipment. They must also be able to follow safety guidelines and procedures in order to ensure the safety of themselves and others. The position can be based at either James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, Gander, or Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, however travel throughout the Central Zone region will be required.

• Regularly lifts/moves object up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifts/moves >50lbs. Push/Pulling forces up to 50lbsF are required.
• Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching, bending and twisting; regular standing, walking, climbing, and being in awkward or cramped positions.
• Use of gross and fine motor skills; constant use of hand tools that require accurate control and steadiness and maintaining physical balance (e.g. ladders/scaffolding).
• Work Environments present potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas.
• Work environments can present exposure to loud noises or environmental hazards; potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other contagion. Personal protective equipment is required for specific areas.
• Maintaining a clean-shaven face can be mandated to ensure proper seal of personal protective equipment.
Required qualifications:.
• Successful completion of a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic program, or equivalency, as recognized by NL Health Services
• Experience with diesel engine and emergency generator systems required; ability to use diagnostic equipment
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.

• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience working in a health care environment.
