Pay Details:

$125,500 - $142,500 CADThis role is temporarily eligible for a pay premium above the posted salary range that is reassessed annually. You are encouraged to have an open dialogue with your recruiter who can provide more specific pay details for this role.

Job Description:

Acts as a senior support engineer representing Public Cloud Database team in providing expert advice and/or acts in a lead capacity on operational performance, availability, support and release / deployment management.

Department Overview

Public Cloud Database PaaS Service is responsible for the solution engineering, design, optimization, integration, automation, lifecycle management and support of popular Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) database PaaS services, such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, No-SQL and Redis databases.

Job Summary

  • Act as an expert resource providing insight and recommendations based on standards, best practices and experience.
  • Review, define, enforce and influence standards and appropriate quality measures/metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize cost, provide recommendations and/or deliver corresponding strategic solutions to support cost effectiveness.
  • Assist in the development/maintenance of comprehensive processes for prevention of issues and participate in problem determination and timely resolution of incidents.
  • Troubleshoot failures, coordination of resolution efforts and communication with appropriate stakeholders.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure appropriate security levels are established and maintained for processes, information exchange and system implementations.
  • Ensure systems and operational availability meets or exceeds defined service levels, and report results as required.
  • Adhere to existing processes/standards, business technology architecture, risk and production capacity guidelines; plan, monitor and escalate issues as required.
  • Follow standards, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and applicable Business Recovery Plans (BRP).
  • Work effectively as a team, supporting other members of the team in resolving critical service issues, including but not limited to standard business hours as required.
  • Works independently and/or autonomously as a senior/ lead on a diverse range of tasks / operational support of solutions and is relied upon to coach/ educate others.
  • Prioritize and manage own workload in order to deliver quality results and meet timelines.
  • Continuously enhance knowledge/expertise in own area and keep current with emerging industry trends, new technologies and best practices in the external market that can contribute to delivering effective client solutions.
  • Develop/maintain expertise of system development methodologies, key business initiatives/issues, IT implications for systems/technologies and impact on business solutions.
  • Participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business units. May mentor, coach/educate a small team of IT professionals.
  • Support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/ points of interest.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Skills

  • Strong experience working with Microsoft Azure and GCP public clouds.
  • Extensive experience with database such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, No-SQL and Redis
    • 7+ years database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 to date
    • 3+ years database administration experience with Azure SQL Server/Database, and Azure Postgres Flexible Server, Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Cache for Redis
  • Have experience with Data migrations and ETL.
  • Have experience with Database design and development including data modeling and SQL coding.
  • Have experience with Database performance tuning, Replication, Failover Groups, Disaster recovery.
  • Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, Azure CLI and gcloud CLI
  • Experience Deploying and managing resources in Azure and GCP (Networking, connectivity, Security, troubleshooting).
  • Good understanding of ITIL Best Practices such as Incident, Problem and Change Management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Security best practices, Active Directory
  • Agile

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with Azure App Services and Containers
  • Familiarity with DevOps CI/CD Pipelines, GIT, Jenkins, Terraform
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Splunk, Datadog, Dynatrace).
