JOB TEXT:

NLSchools is seeking applications for general pool interviews from new graduates, external applicants, and substitutes/replacement teachers.

NLSchools is a branch of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador administering primary, elementary and secondary educational services throughout the province. It provides educational services to approximately 65,000 school age children, from K-12, and covers the entire province.

Candidates applying for positions as an Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT) will be working with students who present with a wide range of learning profiles that require individualized programming in: enrichment, academic skills, social-emotional/behavioural skills, accessibility skills, or adaptive skills.

Successful candidates will be able to engage professionally with colleagues, families and communities; demonstrate the planning and implementation of effective and responsive teaching and learning practices; provide evidence of how to shape a safe and positive learning environment for students and families; demonstrate a love of learning and an ability to build learner and leadership capacity; provide evidence and understanding of the impact of effective assessment practices.

If an interview is required, the interview will focus on the application of the 7 Standards for Instructional Resource Teachers which are: Foundations of Special Education; Development and Characteristics of Learners; Educational Assessment; Planning and Delivering Instruction; Learning Environment; Collaborative Partnerships; and Reflective Practice. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Foundations of Special Education - The Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT) understands and applies knowledge of the foundations of special education
  • Development and Characteristics of Learners - The IRT understands the development and characteristics of learners
  • Educational Assessment - The IRT understands the educational assessment process and uses a variety of assessment strategies to support the development of students
  • Planning Instruction - The IRT understands the diversity of students' strengths and needs and applies this knowledge when planning instruction
  • Delivering Instruction - The IRT understands the diversity of students' strengths and needs and applies this knowledge when delivering instruction
  • Learning Environment - The IRT helps create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, independence and self-motivation
  • Collaborative Partnerships - The IRT understands the importance of building collaborative partnerships to enhance student learning
  • Reflective Practice - The IRT continually evaluates his/her practice and actively seeks professional growth opportunities to enhance student learning

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Bachelor of Special Education or Equivalent
  • Equivalencies may be considered

Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.

Please note that candidates designated as Highly Recommended and Recommended in 2023 or 2024 individual or pool competitions will have that designation carried over for 2025 and will not require an interview for similar positions. If this applies to the candidate's situation, they do not need to apply to the pool completion but must apply to individual competitions. Only candidates that require an interview will be selected for the pool.

Interviews that occur during this hiring season will be designated as Recommendable or Not Recommendable at this time. Thus, going forward, the Recommendable designation will carry over and will equal the Highly Recommendable that will be phased out. Candidates must apply to individual competitions.
