Who we are
Executive Council Office - Communications and Marketing is seeking to create an inventory to fill current and future vacancies for results-oriented candidates to serve as Communications Directors and Communications Managers within government departments.
ECO Communications and Marketing is the professional body for all government communications in New Brunswick. Our aim is to deliver strategic communications and marketing that support government priorities and informs New Brunswick residents. Corporate Communications works closely with key partners and stakeholders to ensure communications efforts across government are aligned with government priorities, effectively managed, and responsive to the diverse information needs of the public in both official languages.
What you will do
Reporting to a Senior Director of Departmental Communications, the Communications Director or Communications Manager will:
- communicate, write, plan, organize and think in a fast-paced environment
- oversee planning, developing, and implementing communications and media relations activities and initiatives for their assigned department
- effectively and efficiently explain and promote the programs and policies of their department to the people of New Brunswick
- coordinate media relations, issues management, event planning, stakeholder relations and marketing activities within their department along with the central support team
- serve as principal communications advisor to the minister
Specific duties include:
- researching, writing and implementing communication strategies
- developing and writing communications and promotional materials
- supervising creative and production services
- managing media relations
- providing strategic consulting and advice
Work environment
- Office location: government department head offices, Fredericton
- Office layout: offices and cubicles
- Your Team: Corporate Communications, Departmental Communications
- Mostly in-office work with the ability to work flex hours
- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30

Who you are
You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to problem-solve creatively and think on your feet. The ability to work independently, be part of a professional team and manage multiple priorities. You possess strong writing and editing skills, familiarity with a broad range of communications tools and media, and the ability to develop and implement innovative and creative communications solutions involving traditional and digital media. You have good coordination, planning and organizing skills and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Education and Language
- Pay Band 5 - A university degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field with a minimum of five (5) years related work experience or a two-year college diploma in communications, public relations, journalism or related field with six (6) years related work experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Pay Band 6 - A university degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field with a minimum of seven (7) years related work experience or a two-year college diploma in communications, public relations, journalism or related field with eight (8) years related work experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Some positions require written and spoken competence in French and English. Others will require written and spoken competence in English or in French. Please state your language capability.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of and experience in a government communications environment
- Proven abilities as a communications leader with supervisory experience
Wage
Director: Pay Band 6, $76,622 to $101,920 per year
Manager: Pay Band 5, $65,936 to $92,092 per year
