Job Title: Power Engineer

Location: Port Saxon, Nova Scotia

Kenney & Ross Limited (K&R) has been a pioneer in the marine by-products industry since its founding in 1945 by local entrepreneurs Mr. Job Kenney and Mr. Reginald Ross. From humble beginnings, producing a variety of marine products, K&R quickly became a leader in the manufacture of high-quality fish gelatin and collagen, specializing in fish skins from wild-caught North Atlantic species. With a legacy built on purity, quality, and dedication, K&R continues to set the standard for food, pharmaceutical, and technical-grade gelatin and collagen products. They are also a provider of Kosher and Halal approved fish gelatin and collagen.

On behalf of K&R, we are seeking a talented 3rd or 4th Class Power Engineer to join their team in Port Saxon, located on Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore.

Role Description

As the Power Engineer, you will be responsible for Boiler Operations, overseeing the monitoring and maintenance of key systems, including boilers, air compressors, and refrigeration equipment. Your role will involve performing regular checks, providing preventative maintenance, and conducting annual servicing on these systems. You will troubleshoot any issues in the absence of the Chief Boiler Operator and report any boiler or steam-related concerns. Additionally, you will ensure the work environment remains clean and professional, comply with NS Steam Regulations, and maintain the efficient operation of all equipment.

This role involves the management and maintenance of key facility systems, including:

  • Boiler Room - 7848-kW high-pressure steam plant, including 2 x 400 HP boilers, heat exchangers, and heating units covered under the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act of Nova Scotia.
  • Refrigeration Plant - gas refrigeration system, 5 compressors at various HP.
  • Plant Compressed Air System - Two 40 hp compressors, with air dryers, storage tanks, and main lines.
  • Wastewater Treatment Plant - Oversee all mechanical aspects, including valves, piping, and compressor.
  • Building Infrastructure - Manage steam regulators, reducers, and blow off valves.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Certified 3rd or 4th Class Power Engineer
  • Industrial maintenance experience within food or pharmaceutical manufacturing is an asset.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and hygiene standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve operational challenges.
  • A valid drivers license is required.
