Specialist, Energy Marketing Analytics

Reporting to the Team Lead, Energy Markets Analytics, in this highly technical role, the Specialist, Energy Marketing Analytics is responsible for the conception, design, recommendation, and implementation of analytical models that support the marketing and trading of electrical power and associated products. The incumbent will gather, model, and analyze market intelligence on production, demand, transportation, prices, weather, economic, and other fundamental indicators in the northeastern-electricity, and North-American-natural-gas markets and use this information to inform, design, recommend, and implement: forecasts; market views; back tests; validations; decisions; and other solutions as required to maximize the value of Nalcor's asset portfolio.
The Specialist, Energy Marketing Analytics will work closely with Energy Marketing's Energy Trading and other professional internal and external stakeholders while performing the analysis that drives marketing and trading strategies and the work will be used to: identify preferred markets; set price strategy for buying and selling energy, capacity, and environmental attributes; analyze risk management products such as swaps and financial transmission rights; and structure asset optimization activities with the goal of maximizing value and reducing risk exposures.
The Specialist, Energy Marketing Analytics possesses a high-degree of leadership, personal initiative, sound judgment, technical expertise, and professionalism. They have a broad mandate to design and carry-out Energy Marketing's analytical programs and help manage its electricity portfolio encompassing approximately 3-million megawatt-hours of energy a year, more than 1,600 megawatts of firm transmission rights, congestion risk mitigation contracts, and renewable energy and greenhouse gas credits.. The Specialist, Energy Marketing Analytics will use their knowledge of physical power markets, power systems, and natural gas networks, to build, test, and implement strategies over multiple time horizons.
The incumbent has a university degree with a strong focus in engineering, finance/accounting, economics or mathematics. The incumbent must also demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and communication skills. A Masters in Business Administration would be a definite asset. A minimum of 10 years working in a power, gas, or oil trading environment, with broad experience in trading applications, econometric modeling, forecasting, complex financial modeling, and fundamental modeling is required. Experience with VBA macros and ability to maintain, design and implement code would be considered an asset.
