Salary: $2,725.00 to $3,293.00 bi-weekly
Reporting to the Head of Teaching and Learning Excellence, the Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing exceptional learning products for NBCC. This role creates high-quality courses for classroom, virtual/online, and blended delivery.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, and review new and existing courses based on NBCC-approved curriculum.
- Publish courses within the institution's designated Learning Management System (LMS).
- Ensure that all course design and development reflects NBCC learning design standards, instructional design and strategy, including relevant policies, industry, and regulatory body standards.
- Collaborate effectively in a team environment with key stakeholders, including Academic Deans, Chairs, subject matter experts, Curriculum Development, faculty, industry, government, and other post-secondary institutions.
- Develop course design standards, policies, and procedures per NBCC's Quality Assurance Framework.
- Provide leadership, consultation, mentorship, training, and support for quality instructional design.
- Create and edit course content, including copywriting and multimedia assets.
- Advocate for innovative instructional design solutions.
- Lead the course design and management of individual projects, construct detailed project plans, coordinate project teams and schedules, and efficiently monitor, track, and report on established timelines.
- Maintain currency in instructional design and development, teaching and learning, educational trends, and related educational technologies.
- Participate and support in the quality assurance process related to NBCC course design and development, making corrections as required.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curricula and Instruction, or other related field with recent and related experience.
Six (6) years of related experience, with at least three in developing curriculum, instructional design, or online course development.
Experience designing and developing courses in a post-secondary education environment
Demonstrated knowledge in instruction systems design methodology, rapid design/development methodologies, adult learning theory, research methodology and assessment tools.
Professional Skills:
- High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills to combine text, images, video, and audio.
- Strong project management abilities, including breaking down complex technical processes into simple, logical steps.
- Ability to work dynamically and independently, meet multiple deadlines, and make efficient decisions.
- Comfortable setting timelines, following up with multiple and diverse stakeholders, and ensuring that deliverables are delivered on time.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, analytical ability, and innovative thinking.
- Self-motivated, service and results-oriented.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- A desire for continuous learning and growth.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License, as travel will be required.
