We have an immediate opening for a Carbon Manager based in Edmundston, Plaster Rock, or Fredericton, New Brunswick, or in Millinocket, Maine. A remote working arrangement may also be considered. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide analytical support for forest carbon offset projects and forest management planning through the implementation, analysis, and maintenance of forest growth and yield models, carbon optimization frameworks, and carbon data processing activities.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Manage forest inventory activities, including timber and carbon inventories
- Independently conduct all phases of complex analytical projects
- Conduct periodic wood supply analysis and spatial forest management plans
- Conduct spatial/tabular data processing such as R, SQL, ArcGIS, and Python
- Use and interpret stand level models to build yield curves including OSM and FVS
- Develop processes to integrate carbon modeling as part of wood supply analysis
- Understand carbon credit offset methodologies (e.g. ACR, Canada Federal Offset Protocol, others)
- Manage all external validation activities of carbon projects including selecting and coordinating work with 3rd-party validation/verification organizations
- Prepare all required submissions and reports required under a carbon protocol (e.g. greenhouse gas plan, data for validation and verification, monitoring reports etc.)
- Coordinate internal resources to conduct work as required
Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field
- Proficiency in forest analysis, forest inventory, growth and yield modeling, and applied GIS
- Expertise in wood supply including experience with various stand models as well as the Remsoft Planning system
- Strength using writing and data visualization skills to author professional analysis reports
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills
Other Skills Considered an Asset:
- Bilingual capability (English/French)
- Knowledge of, and experience in carbon modeling
- Master's degree in a related field
