Full-time Night Counsellor

Tearmann Society for Abused Women is a feminist organization which operates a 24 hour, 17 bed emergency shelter for abused women and their children. The Night Support Staff reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for providing frontline crisis intervention, counselling, support and referral services to women and children. Other related duties include cleaning and administrative duties. This position is a member of the bargaining unit of CUPE Local 4459.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• University degree in Social Work, Community Studies or other related field, and/or equivalent combination of training and human services experience required.

• Excellent written and verbal skills, good organizational and recording skills.

• Current CPR/First Aid Certification required.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

• Computer application experience using Gmail, Word, Excel and other computer related programs required

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Demonstrate supportive counselling and crisis intervention skills.

• In depth understanding of violence against women and intimate-partner abuse.

• Knowledge of and the ability to work from a feminist philosophy.

• Ability to work independently adhering to policies, procedures and protocols.

• Promote and demonstrate a non-judgmental, inclusive and supportive environment.

• Work from trauma informed, feminist, anti - oppressive perspective

• Risk assessment, risk management and safety planning

This position will require 67 hours bi-weekly, 12am-8am & 8pm-8am (Saturday & Sunday) shifts. The hourly rate of pay will be 20.25/hr as per Collective Agreement.
