Halifax Water is accepting applications for one (1) term, Field Service Technician, Level 1 in the Corporate Services Department for a period of approximately 9 months. Halifax Water's goal is to be a diverse workforce that is representative of the community we serve, at all job levels.

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Metering, or designate, this position involves customer relations wherein the general work includes connecting and disconnecting metered water service, investigating customer inquiries, meter reading, enforcing collection procedures and repairing metering equipment.

Interested, qualified candidates are asked to submit a cover letter and up-to-date resume quoting Competition #HW25-47E confirming their interest by 4:30 pm on March 31, 2025. As part of the conditional offer process, candidates may be subject to satisfactory pre-employment screening.

Responsabilités
  1. Complete all appointments for water connections, reconnects, disconnects, meter reads, and repairs.
  2. Install, maintain and repair metering equipment, such as meters, remote registers, Encoder Receiver Transmitters (ERTs) etc.
  3. Carry out field collection activities for overdue accounts as required.
  4. Maintain records related to collection work and make recommendations regarding disconnection of service.
  5. Collect meter readings for both residential and non-residential accounts using a handheld computer, or manually as required.
  6. Conduct field investigations for high consumption, service line leak detection, theft of service, reverse flow, vacant properties, etc.
  7. Complete any required reports or records and provide analysis.
  8. Perform general office duties including pick ups and deliveries.
  9. Complete and maintain forms, records and service orders as required.
  10. Maintain thorough knowledge of Halifax Water Design Specifications related to meters.
  11. General knowledge of Automated Metering Infrastructure and trouble shoot issues.
  12. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications

Education:
• Grade 12 or N.S. Department of Education equivalent.
• Education relating to Plumbing, Metering, Mechanical or Electric trades would be an asset.

Experience:
• One-year previous plumbing, metering, mechanical, or electrical experience.

Certificates / Licenses / Registrations:
• Valid N.S. Driver's License.
• Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
• First Aid
• Globally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)
• Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational
requirements
