Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Term Part-time Mental Health Program Lead (SEEDS) to join our team in Halifax and Bedford!
Reporting to the Manager, Community Development & Support, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors/Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy (or related disciplines, such as Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation, Counselling Psychology)
  • Current registration, and in good standing, with designated college in Nova Scotia (e.g. College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia College of Social Worker, Nova Scotia Therapeutic Recreation Association)
  • Minimum of one year of relevant work experience
  • Long term care experience is considered an asset
  • Experience working in mental health and wellness is considered an asset
  • Interest in Art and/or Gardening
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (or other professional associations) or haveestablished eligibility
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates abilities in working with the geriatric population, team building, conflict resolution, decision making, managing change, and group process
  • Ability to lift and transfer up to 44lbs
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis according to Northwood's corporate standard

Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for program development and delivery
  • Plans, organizes and conducts Wellness programs to help program participants towards mental health and wellness goals
  • Reviews referrals and completes documentation on an electronic system
  • Evaluates the participant's physical and mental abilities to develop therapeutic goals.
  • Supervises and collaborates with Mental Health Programmer to ensure congruence between participant goals, program goals, and the activity/therapeutic intervention
  • Oversees support and maintenance of plants, greenhouse, and garden spaces as part of program resources, with Mental Health Programmer and Volunteers
  • Develops and maintains communication links with multiple internal and external partners
  • Participates in participant care responsibilities to promote independence in daily living skills, communication, and socialization, within the scope of the program
  • Evaluates participants and prepares reports detailing progress
  • Completes and maintains necessary records (e.g. work statistics, referrals)
  • Conducts assessments of individual participant's functionality within their environments
  • Works with participants to set goals, plan, and implement interventions, and evaluate results
  • Writes and submits funding requests as needed
  • Performs other related duties as required

Salary / Benefits: As per the Northwood scale.
Hours of Work: 48 hours bi-weekly; shifts vary
Start Date: April 4, 2025
