The Senior Manager, Business Risk works with the Director, Business Risk to support JFL's Risk and Controls area and its regulatory and operational risk implementation. The individual will play a key role in developing and managing projects to ensure the continued effectiveness of the internal controls program in alignment with strategic business growth initiatives, including technology change management. They will contribute to and drive results by working with internal stakeholders and support groups to satisfy the regulatory and risk management frameworks.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Lead the delivery and execution of regulatory and operational risk priorities and support strategic business initiatives, in particular technology modernization; create roadmaps, initiate workstreams, identify required resources, escalate critical issues, and track program progress to ensure deadlines are met and initiatives are implemented efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
- Establish reporting mechanisms to track and monitor progress and metrics to measure success; maintaining thorough and complete project working files for retention and audit purposes.
- Manage multiple project workstreams, including leading problem solving sessions, workshops and interviews with cross-functional and business line working team members and subject matter experts.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for efficiencies in the existing internal controls program and participate in developing, maintaining and implementing modernization changes and technology-based tools to enhance the firm's business risk practices, controls, policies and procedures.
- Assist the Director, Business Risk to drive regulatory training and communications with stakeholders, manage regulatory training programs to ensure alignment with regulatory and risk management requirements.
- Develop and maintain trusted advisor and collaborative relationships as a subject-matter expert with the key stakeholders, partners and senior management, including Internal Controls teams, Compliance, Operations and Legal;
- Maintain a high level of awareness and knowledge of regulatory and operational risk requirements, developments and best practices to provide ongoing and proactive support to the Business;
- Understand how Scotiabank and JFL's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in Business, Finance or related discipline.
- 7+ years financial services industry experience in risk and controls, compliance, investment management or other relevant functional area.
- Background and work experience in project management, program and change management or regulatory reform initiatives preferable.

- Knowledge and understanding of the securities industry, relevant legal and regulatory requirements and industry "best practices" applicable to the activities of an investment counsel / portfolio manager with institutional and retail businesses.
- Strong stakeholder engagement & influencing skills to facilitate teamwork and successful initiative execution.
- Ability to manage stakeholder expectations, concerns, and to identify and mitigate project risk as required.
- Exceptional multi-tasking, planning, organizational and time-management skills
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving capability and a keen eye for detail
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Self-motivated, confident and capable of working both independently and in a team environment, prioritizing workload and seeking support when appropriate
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 suite of applications, databases and related systems and software applications. Programming knowledge is an asset.
