Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with CKF, a member of the Scotia Investments Family of Companies, to recruit a Human Resources Manager to join their Head Office in Hantsport, Nova Scotia.

Role Description:
As the Human Resources Manager, you will manage a wide variety of HR functions, with a particular emphasis on recruitment, labour relations, and compliance with the Collective Agreement. You will act as a trusted advisor to supervisors and managers across the organization, resolving workplace disputes and implementing effective HR strategies to foster a productive and engaged work environment. In addition, you will develop an outstanding rapport with Union members while continuing a relationship built on strong communication and trust.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the recruitment process for hourly and salaried employees, preparing job postings, screening applicants, and awarding jobs in accordance with the Collective Agreement when applicable, as well as coordinating with outside agencies and operations departments on staffing requirements and succession planning;
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team and department managers on continuous improvement, identifying and implementing ways in which processes and technology can be modernized across the organization;
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and ongoing mentorship and support to the greater Human Resources team;
  • Act as an advisor to supervisors and managers on the interpretation and administration of the Collective Agreement, while also maintaining ongoing communication with Union officers regarding grievances, discipline, and policy changes;
  • Conduct grievance investigations and recommend actions to resolve and mediate workplace disputes, collaborating with legal counsel as needed;
  • Conduct investigations related to employee complaints brought forward through the respectful workplace policy;
  • Prepare materials for labour negotiations/collective bargaining, actively participating in negotiations;
  • Oversee the administration of the Employee Attendance Management Program, Disability Case Management Program, and group insurance/pension plans for Hantsport-based employees;
  • Coordinate employee events and awards programs to enhance employee engagement and morale.

Qualifications:
This position could be an ideal fit if you are a confident, experienced HR professional with proven track record of managing organizational change within a unionized environment. Most importantly, you are an exceptional communicator with the ability to motivate and inspire people through difficult conversations.


Your qualifications will include:

  • Post-secondary education with an emphasis in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field;
  • CPHR designation is considered an asset;
  • 10 years' experience in a progressive Human Resources role, preferably in a fast-paced, unionized manufacturing environment;
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in employee relations, with experience coaching managers on how to reduce and mediate conflict;
  • Proven experience in participating and negotiating collective bargaining agreements;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities;
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • In-depth knowledge of Nova Scotia labour and employment law;
  • Experience in implementing change management initiatives;
  • Ability to operate with a strong sense of urgency when required;
  • Skilled in drafting clear and professional employer communications;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with management, hourly employees, and external agencies;
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team with operations and other HR/HSE professionals;
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
