Reporting to the Senior Manager of Student Transportation, the primary responsibility of the Regional Manager is to oversee the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of students to and from the region's 68 schools in compliance with government policies, regulations, and legislation. To oversee the 230 bus routes in this jurisdiction, the position manages a fleet of 215 Government-owned buses and ensures contract compliance by service providers. Fleet management includes maintenance, cleaning, route assignments, and delivering quality service across five bus depots, as well as monitoring training standards for the approximately 250 subordinate staff.
Direct reports to this role include four Supervisors and one Administrative Assistant.
The role requires independent work and is responsible for overseeing Government policies, ensuring compliance with OH&S regulations, the Highway Traffic Act, and the Public Procurement Act, while working in accordance with CUPE and NAPE Collective Agreements.
Key responsibilities also include effective depot and fleet management, inventory control, preventative maintenance, route scheduling, and monitoring vehicle and driver documentation. These will involve regularly updating various student transportation systems and software.
As the Manager of Student Transportation, you will provide timely, consistent, and expert advice on transportation issues to school administrators, management, and staff. In coordination with the Human Resources Division, you will collaborate with supervisors in recruiting and selecting transportation staff. You will proactively address problems by identifying issues, exploring solutions, and developing strategies. This includes investigating accidents and incidents for both contracted and Government-operated services.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and time management skills. They must also be capable of working independently, skilled in conflict resolution, able to work under pressure, and meet deadlines. The candidate should also have experience building and maintaining strong working relationships with stakeholders.
Candidates should have experience managing transportation systems and knowledge of Google and Microsoft applications, routing systems, GPS technology, fleet management best practices, the Highway Traffic Act, and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
This role typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, mechanical journeyperson certification with project management experience, or equivalent qualifications and experience, complemented by at least five years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment. Public sector experience is preferred. A valid Driver's License and personal vehicle is required for this position.
Salary Scale HL 21: $72,639 - $94,431
