Hours: 35 hours/week, mostly Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm with occasional weekends and evenings.
Salary: $26-28/ per hour plus a 4% Wellness Fund bonus and 12 cumulative sick days/year
Reports to: Well-Being HUB Executive Director
This is a one year term (April 1, 2025-March 31, 2026) with potential to renew pending funding.
Works in collaboration with: Well-Being HUB Mental Wellness Navigator; Well-Being HUB Program Coordinator; Well-Being HUB partners
Using the framework of social determinants of health, the Well-Being HUB Outreach and Education Coordinator (OEC) will work with community members through the Eastern Shore and Musquodoboit Valley to help build communities versed in supporting mental wellness on a grass roots level, thereby improving the quality of life of residents.
The OEC is responsible for connecting with local, provincial and federal partners to help build a community of care around mental wellness. Their focus will be on providing opportunities for capacity building, learning and connecting on a local level.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Community Capacity Building & Training
- Conduct mental wellness training needs assessments with partner organizations to inform the coordination of a regular training schedule (e.g. ASIST, SafeTalk, Mental Health First Aid, AARP, grief & bereavement, etc.)
- Compile and maintain a database of appropriate capacity building resources and contacts.
- Develop a calendar of consistent training opportunities & promote them to organizations and individuals supporting mental wellness in our catchment area.
- Work with partners to identify and coordinate general training and "train the trainers" opportunities, as well as identify suitable participants.
- Support the creation of a Peer Support Community of Practice (CoP) by coordinating general training and "train the trainer" opportunities for Well-Being HUB Peer Supporters.
- Provide support to trainers to host further training sessions in the community.
- Create and coordinate an accessible Mental Wellness Ambassador Program (MWAP), including four "Friendly Neighbor Modules" aimed at helping community members develop skills around supporting the mental wellness of neighbours and clients.
- Promote MWAP modules through regular Well-Being HUB communications channels and by offering introductions of the program to local community service organizations.
Community Mental Wellness Programming
- Co-coordinate mental wellness programming tailored around discussing mental wellness in general, building coping skills, reducing stigma, and supporting fellow community members.
- Support the Mental Wellness Working Group (MWWG) in program planning and implementation of activities in community
- Work with Program Coordinator, Mental Wellness Navigator, and the Well-Being HUB team on the development and implementation of programs & special projects.
- Work with Well-Being HUB leadership to identify, strengthen, and cultivate opportunities for expanded community partnerships in our service area.
Evaluation activities
- Collect, manage, and analyze evaluation data as identified through the Well-Being HUB Evaluation Framework.
- Maintain accurate records of work, including numbers and stories, to help define the program impact and implementation of continuous improvement.
- Support the sharing of feedback on programs and information on available resources.
- Monitor trends and community needs to support continuous improvement.
Communications
- Deliver presentations directly to other service organizations, as well as at public gatherings, workshops, and symposia/conferences.
- Identify and attend events relevant to the purposes of networking, program development, and building partnerships.
- Provide reports in various formats to a breadth of stakeholders including community members, partners, board members, other Well-Being HUB staff, funders, among others.
- Contribute mental wellness-related content for our communications channels.
- Promote and support the achievement of Well-Being HUB vision, mission, goals, and objectives.
In addition to assisting in other duties as assigned that are reasonable within the scope of the job.

- strong research and analytical skills with the ability to gather and input evaluation data based on an established evaluation framework, using documentation software, database files and evaluation tools, in addition to having general proficiency in the Google Teams suite.
- an awareness of evidenced-based programs in the mental health field and thorough knowledge of the local context and resources, with the ability to make connections in the community.
- the ability to deliver engaging community presentations and educational sessions online and in-person to a variety of audiences; and to facilitate groups for social and educational purposes.
- demonstrated problem-solving, planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to think in creative, innovative ways and to see `outside the box'.
- the desire to contribute to an inclusive, healthy, and safe team-oriented environment.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
We are seeking applicants who have:
- an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Community Development, Recreation, Health Promotion, Education, Social Sciences or a combination of relevant education and work experience. A master's degree would be considered an asset.
- 3-5 years of front-line experience in community-based work, ideally in outreach.
- training specific to mental wellness (e.g. ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, safeTALK, grief)
- a solid knowledge, sensitivity, and/or lived experience relating to issues of mental health and addictions.
Please note that the working location will be a combination of online and in community for meetings, events, and activities. Regular travel to various locations in our catchment area through the Eastern Shore and Musquodoboit Valley is required, therefore access to a reliable vehicle is necessary. In addition, new vulnerable sector and criminal record checks are required upon accepting an offer of employment.
