BACKGROUND
NL SUPPORT is a research support centre dedicated to realizing improved outcomes for all users of the healthcare system by fostering a culture of patient and public oriented research. It collaborates with patients and the public to identify their needs and respond to those identified priorities. Reporting to the Director, Research Initiatives and Services for managerial support and to the NL SUPPORT and Quality of Care Principal Applicant for research methodology and strategic support the successful applicant will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team focused on supporting patient and public oriented research in Newfoundland and Labrador. NL SUPPORT is part of a nationwide initiative: The Strategy for Patient-Oriented-Research. Quality of Care NL, a key program of NL SUPPORT, is a collaborative effort among the leading health care partners in Newfoundland and Labrador. Quality of Care NL's goal is to improve the quality of care in NL by facilitating change to ensure the right treatment gets to the right patient at the right time. DUTIES
The Project Director will provide leadership to all NL SUPPORT and Quality of Care NL initiatives including strategic and administrative planning, project management, staff management and optimal resource allocation. In addition, the incumbent will represent NL SUPPORT at national meetings, including with funding agencies. Duties include planning strategically in partnership with governance committees; managing finances and budget allocation; overseeing performance management, including annual reporting to funding agencies; writing grants, including for potential project extension funding (2026-2028), Phase III federal funding, and other smaller grants as required; building and maintaining external relationships with key stakeholders and partner agencies; working with other SPOR entities across Canada to build the SPOR community, including leading national initiatives; furthering the Quality of Care NL and Choosing Wisely NL agendas, with the aims of promoting high value care and reducing care of low value or with negative environmental impact; championing the implementation of Patient and Public Oriented Research to facilitate culture change, including overseeing training and capacity development initiatives; assisting in the establishment of a Learning Health and Social System and implementing learning cycles in the system; supervising and overseeing the NL SUPPORT and Quality of Care staff team directly managing the Quality of Care NL Manager and the NL SUPPORT Engagement and Capacity Development Operational Lead; providing support to patient or public partners to ensure their full engagement within the work of NL SUPPORT and Quality of Care NL; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (5-8 years) in progressively responsible leadership positions within academic or health service research administration; completion of a master's degree in a related area, is required (PhD. preferred); or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. The ideal candidate will possess advanced skills in analyzing and interpreting information and situations, conflict resolution, mediation, negotiating and problem solving. Demonstrated strength in planning, organization, interpersonal communication, relationship building, budgeting, and working effectively both independently and as part of a team and with the public are required. Management skills, including experience in the application of human resources policies and procedures, are required, as well as the ability to negotiate administrative and financial matters. Knowledge of funding sources, granting agency processes, University contractual and financial processes and extensive experience with managing large multi-stakeholder research projects will be considered assets.
SALARY $80,801- $103,465 per annum (Management and Professional)
