Job Summary
The Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Section (RPS) is responsible for producing Positron Emitting (PERs) and Single Photon (SPRs) radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic use in the Department of Nuclear and Molecular Medicine. All functions involved in the production of PERs and SPRs are regulated and must comply with the appropriate Health Canada (HC) and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) policies and procedures under which the RPS operates.

General responsibilities will include:
- Operation and maintenance of the cyclotron and ancillary equipment related to the production of radionuclides for clinical and research use.
- Operation and maintenance of the automated synthesis units and support equipment for the production of radiopharmaceuticals and radiotracers for clinical and research use.
- Operation and maintenance of the analytical equipment (i.e. HPLC, TLC, DC) for the quality control of the radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals for clinical and research use.
- Execution and maintenance of the aseptic and environmental control program.
- Cleaning and maintenance of the facilities including hot cells, cleanrooms and related work areas involved in the production of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals for clinical and research use.
- Documentation of all operating parameters and results obtained during the production and quality control of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals as required by department, Health Canada and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission regulations for quality assurance purposes.
- The position will assist the Radiochemist, Lead Technologist, Cyclotron Engineer, Quality Assurance Manager and RPS Manager and in the preparation and review of operational (i.e. instrument operation, production, dispensing and shipping) policies and procedures to ensure they are implemented properly.
- The position will also assist the Radiochemist, Lead Technologist, Cyclotron Engineer, Quality Assurance Manager and RPS Manager in research and development projects as required.

Job Demands
By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
Regularly moves or lifts objects between 10-50+ lbs. such as shielded radioactive sources and lead bricks.
Constantly sits to perform paper/computer work and operation of remote equipment; regularly walks or stands to perform radiopharmaceutical production, cyclotron and equipment maintenance.
Regularly performs fine finger/precision computer work; handling of open source radioactivity and radioactive equipment/components requiring steadiness and accurate movement/control.
Regularly works in confined/awkward spaces where reaching, bending and crouching are required to complete maintenance work.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are a regular requirement, including gloves and gowns.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized program in Medical Laboratory, Nuclear Medicine, Biology or related Laboratory Science Technology supplemented by a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology or another related field is required.
Minimum of three years of experience within the last five working in one of the following fields is required:
- Microbiology (sterility and pyrogen testing or working with microbials).
- Equipment maintenance with strong mechanical, electrical or electronics (aptitude in mechanical and electrical schematic reading).
- Analytical laboratory (chromatography and spectroscopic techniques).
- Nuclear Medicine or PET CT working as technologist using radiopharmaceuticals.
Experience in the preparation and quality control of SPRs and PERs in a GMP or GLP environment is an asset.
Experience in analytical chemistry, radiochemistry or radiopharmacy would be an asset.
Familiarity with radiation safety procedures and CNSC regulations would be an asset.
Demonstrated strong teamwork skills is required.
Proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

* The successful applicant will be required to rotate periodically through four job positions including Cyclotron operation, PER production, SPR production and Quality Control. Please note that shift start and stop times will be subject to change as the position roles and operational requirements of the new PET program become better established.

**This position may require extensive additional education and training. The applicant must complete any education/training that is required by the department. A return in a service agreement may be required.

***The successful applicant must be eligible for Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) status.
