Demands, duties, qualifications Reporting to the VP of Medical Services, Chief of Staff within NL Health Services, the Senior Medical Director assists in providing leadership, management, and direction to the practitioner staff of the Zone. The successful candidate will work in a dyad management/leadership model with the Zone Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Central Zone (CENTRALZ) Senior Leadership team and the Regional Health Council (RHC). The Senior Medical Director is accountable for contributing to the strategic and operational leadership to the respective Zone in conjunction with the COO. They will be responsible for building and leading effective, progressive teams and be an expert communicator and collaborator.
The Senior Medical Director will play a key role in establishing and maintaining clinical services. They will be a leader in the integration of physicians, other practitioners, and employees within the CENTRAL Zone, to better coordinate health services and ensure patients receive high quality, timely health care. They will build new, and strengthen existing, relationships with physicians and providers across the CENTRAL Zone. Operating in a complex and dynamic health care environment, the successful candidate is an innovative and transformational leader who will bring an unparalleled passion for health care. Travel within the CENTRAL Zone is required.
Qualifications:
• Licensed medical practitioner in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL) if practicing clinical medicine.
• Eligible for medical staff appointment within NLHS if practicing clinically.
• Eligible for an academic appointment with the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland.
• Advanced education in healthcare administration, public administration and/or leadership studies would be considered an asset.
• Has experience working in dyad leadership roles and relationships.
• Recent experience at the executive/senior level of physician leadership would be considered an asset.
Experience:
• Progressive experience in health care leadership/management/administration, as a medical leader who has developed and led innovative programs in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws and administrative processes concerning physicians is desirable.
• Knowledge of, and experience in, guiding health quality improvement processes and initiatives.
• Knowledge of appropriateness of care and performance indicators.
• Experience in investigating and managing physician conduct and performance.
