The Office of Student Experience at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Indigenous Student Support Advisor.

Responsabilités

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Student Experience, this role provides culturally appropriate support to Indigenous students and plans programs that connect Indigenous students to their culture and community while studying at MSVU. Emphasis is placed on connecting Indigenous students to campus resources, providing a positive student experience on campus, engagement with the Indigenous community, and empowerment of Indigenous students.

The Indigenous Student Support Advisor collaborates with the Special Advisor on Indigenous Affairs to oversee the Indigenous Student Centre (Kina'masuti aqq Apognamasuti (Learning and Help)). They will coordinate culturally appropriate programming that empowers Indigenous students to engage with MSVU and achieve academic success. The Indigenous Student Support Advisor provides advocacy for Indigenous students with sound and reliable advice that is based on their knowledge of the community and the resources and policies of the university. They will work with departments across the university and members of Indigenous communities to provide comprehensive support to Indigenous students. They will initiate and support activities that address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MIWG) Recommendations.

Qualifications

You possess an undergraduate degree with a minimum of two years of relevant experience and a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. You have the ability to work with a diverse group of constituents and have established community contacts within Indigenous communities in Mi'kma'ki. You are an excellent relationship builder with ability to deal confidentially and flexibly with students from diverse personal and academic backgrounds and with diverse needs and interests. You must possess effective oral and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and well-developed computer skills. You have the ability to work well as a part of a team and independently. University work experience, familiarity with high school and community college education and programs, and an awareness of current and emerging job markets for university graduates are desirable. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and have an aptitude for, or previous experience, using business enterprise systems such as Colleague and SharePoint.

Classification: Permanent, Full-time MPA Level 3 Position
Salary: $58,295 per annum [Step Progression: $58,295 to $70,925]
