DUTIES
The Systems Administrator III is a senior position within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) which reports directly to the manager of Engineering Computing Services (ECS). This position will be responsible for the support of systems and services to meet the needs of FEAS, and provide support and supervision of the daily activities of ECS staff. Duties include provisioning and administering both Microsoft Windows and Linux physical and virtual servers, storage solutions, and network equipment; developing and managing backup and disaster recovery strategies; consulting with faculty and research groups to formulate solutions based on client requirements; monitoring the use of resources; automating procedures; troubleshooting system failures and user errors; providing documentation and technical assistance; participating in systems architecture and planning; keeping current with industry standards and best practices, as well as on new technologies; researching and reporting on industry trends to determine potential areas for improvement; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in systems administration in an enterprise environment; completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Essential knowledge includes proficiency with Microsoft Windows Server, Linux Servers, VMWare, Proxmox, Active Directory, Group Policy management, storage technologies, and backup solutions; as well as experience in scripting and light programming (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell, Version control), Apache web services, and network license administration and troubleshooting (e.g., flexlm, sentinel, RLM). The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities; strong communication and interpersonal skills; and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Cybersecurity training/experience are considered assets. Experience in team management is highly valued for this role.
SALARY $62,206 - $70,273 per annum (CUPE 1615)
