Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is offering a challenging and exciting opportunity to join our team. Working in a creative, fast-paced environment, you'll be part of transforming the future of the province's energy sector. Our long term plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew and replace portions of our installed asset base.

Working within Hydro's Major Projects team, this position will ensure that projects are delivered successfully for the Utility. This position is responsible for the overall delivery of the assigned project which can consists of multiple projects with varying scope, complexity and budget. Responsibilities may span from planning to the detailed engineering phase and through to completion. The incumbent will rely on strong operational and corporate interfaces to complete the required scope.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to lead and coordinate a team working within a matrix organization. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Establish an effective project organization through the identification of required project resources that is able to effectively support the delivery of the department's initiatives.
  • Oversight of the assigned department scope. This consists of overall project execution responsible for the assign multiple scopes, primarily focus on projects in the study/feasibility stage.
  • Overall delivery responsibility and project management of assigned scope as required.
  • Identify cost and schedule drivers, and implement associated optimization opportunities.
  • Work with Project Controls to ensure effective cost and schedule control, including schedule and cost trend reviews. Monitor project deliverables and milestones and ensure compliance with baseline schedules.
  • Organize and lead meetings related to delivery of project scope, working to resolve issues that could impact overall delivery.
  • Identify delivery risks and develop/implement associated risk management plans.
  • Ensuring opportunities for improvement with respect to safety and environment.
  • Oversee Supplier's/Contractor and preparation of documentation. Lead member in contract formation and negotiation. Work with the commercial team to ensure key procurement activities and recommendations are undertaken.
  • Ensure internal and externa project interfaces are clearly identified and managed.

Qualifications:

To excel in this position you will need to bring the following:

  • Extensive background (5-10 years) on large electric utility projects is considered an asset.
  • Bachelor's Degree and Professional Certification in Project Management (eg. PMP) is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in developing and leading diverse work teams.
  • Commercially astute individual with a strong background in cost/schedule analysis.
  • Strong background in the application of Project Management Systems. Strong planning, budgeting and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability to perform in different work environments. A team focused approach and collaborative nature.
