Title: Production Manager

Position: Full Time Permanent, Non-Union (40 - 45hrs/week)

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 5:00PM

Job Location: Edwardsville, NS

Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible

Compensation Package: Comprehensive and competitive annual salary, comprehensive cost-shared benefits package, three (3) weeks paid vacation, paid holidays, paid internal training, cellphone allowance, and more!

Polysteel Atlantic Limited is a locally owned manufacturer in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, that manufactures high tensile strength three-strand synthetic rope, producing over 6,000,000 lbs per year for the aquaculture and commercial fishing industries. Polysteel Atlantic manufactures customized rope, structural fiber, and Safety Line and is the reason for the company's growing popularity in the various sectors it services.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Production Manager will oversee all factory operations, ensuring their safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading and participating in continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives, managing production management scheduling systems, and optimizing shipping, receiving, and sequencing processes.

Core Accountabilities:

Production Management:

  • Establish standard work procedures and task matrices to schedule team members and equipment to efficiently meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and product quality, adjusting production and inventory control programs as needed to maximize profitability.
  • Provide recommendations for labour requirements based on forecasted and scheduled demand.
  • Create and implement procedures for maintaining optimal inventory levels, utilizing inventory tracking reports.
  • Create plans for efficient use of materials, equipment, supplies, and employees.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze and identify opportunities to reduce process variation, improve process capabilities, and optimize process performance to meet or exceed quoted productivity targets.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the production team, encouraging team members to identify and implement optimizations that enhance safety, productivity, and quality.
  • Perform and lead special projects in support of the business objectives.

Collaborative Leadership:

  • Establish and implement strategic and operational goals for the plant, focusing on achieving customer satisfaction through on-time delivery and high-quality products.
  • Work closely with the sales and shipping teams to ensure successful on-time delivery.

Optimal Performance:

  • Monitor equipment performance and collaborate with internal departments and external vendors/contractors to ensure its availability and optimal operation.
  • Monitor and ensure performance measures are on track with the Key Operating Indicators (KIOs).

Leadership:

  • Mentor and train team members, providing clear and constructive performance feedback and reviews to accelerate their professional development.
  • Establish and enforce standards and procedures that comply with all applicable regulations, collaborating with the Joint Health and Safety Representatives to implement safety improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration (Project Management focus), Supply Chain Management, or a similar field is required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) accreditation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) - five (5) years of relevant leadership experience is required.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or other continuous improvement methodologies (E.g., Six Sigma) is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Nova Scotia Health & Safety Act and regulations is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in production planning, scheduling, inventory control, and process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and principles, inventory management techniques, and quality control methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Understanding of financial statements and cost accounting, with the ability to develop and manage budgets.
  • Proficient in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
  • Exceptional collaboration and people management skills to lead team members toward the achievement of KOIs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with high complexity, while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
