The Opportunity

As a GIS Technologist and a valued member of the Operations Support Department, you will play a vital role in supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. You will collaborate with teams across various departments to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our systems and contribute to the continued growth and modernization of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with various departments to develop, implement, and advise on GIS-based projects that enhance operational efficiency and processes.
  • Research, design, and implement solutions that promote company-wide modernization and improvements.
  • Monitor, support, and troubleshoot GIS applications.
  • Test and implement changes to GIS systems, improving functionality, performance, and security.
  • Provide user support, conduct training, and assist in ongoing system enhancements to ensure effective use of GIS tools.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including implementation plans, disaster recovery procedures, workflows, and training materials.
  • Work closely with engineering and operations teams to develop GIS modeling plans that support infrastructure additions and upgrades.
  • Provide GIS and Outage Management System (OMS) application support during emergency event responses.

Qualifications:

  • A Diploma in Electrical or Geomatics/Surveying Engineering Technology or other applicable Engineering Technology program.
  • Technical experience in the use and operation of GIS, including the entry, editing and retrieval of geospatial data in GIS databases.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and computer skills, supported by the ability to execute with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Training and/or experience with ESRI software, such as ArcGIS, Survey123, Field maps and commonly used design/drafting tools, such as AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Experience in utility operations including knowledge and familiarity with electric distribution system components and their functions is an asset.
