DESCRIPTION:
Paqtnkek Mi'kmaw Nation is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Clinical Social Worker to join our team. This role will involve providing mental health and social services to individuals, families, and the community, with a strong emphasis on culturally appropriate care for First Nation members. The successful candidate will work closely with other healthcare professionals and community leaders to address the mental, emotional, and social well-being of our community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual, family, and group counseling services.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with clients and other professionals.
- Offer crisis intervention and support.
- Advocate for clients and ensure they have access to necessary resources.
- Promote wellness and mental health through community education and outreach.
- Maintain confidential records in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
- Participate in case conferences and collaborate with external agencies.
- Foster a culturally sensitive and inclusive environment in service delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
- Valid registration with the appropriate regulatory body (e.g., NSCSW).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical social work; experience working within a First Nation community is preferred.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural values, traditions, and social issues.
- Experience in mental health, crisis intervention, and case management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples, specifically in a First Nation context.
- Knowledge of local health, social services, and community resources.
- Bilingualism in English and Mi'kmaq is considered an asset.
- Sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by First Nation communities.
