ABOUT PAQTNKEK MI'KMAW NATION:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Certified Addictions Counsellor to provide individual and group counseling, education, and support services to individuals affected by substance use within Paqtnkek Mi'kmaw Nation. This role will involve working closely with community members, families, and other service providers to ensure culturally competent care, fostering healing, and promoting recovery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide one-on-one and group counseling to individuals struggling with substance use issues.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans that incorporate cultural traditions and values.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support services as required.
  • Facilitate and lead prevention, awareness, and educational programs for the community.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers, social workers, and community leaders to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate records of client progress in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with addiction treatment methodologies and culturally relevant practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in Addictions Counselling from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in addiction counseling, preferably within a First Nations setting.
  • Strong knowledge of substance use, treatment methodologies, and recovery models.
  • Ability to integrate traditional cultural practices with contemporary counseling techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of Paqtnkek Mi'kmaw Nation's culture, language, and community dynamics is an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
