BACKGROUND

The CREAIT Network is a pan-institutional collection of more than 20 scientists and technologists who manage a varied array of major research equipment in various locations around Memorial's campus, encompassing five core laboratory research nodes, over 30 research laboratories and research support facilities, and a research data centre. Some of the services provided by CREAIT include training of new users, advising students and faculty in experiment design and execution, providing scientific and technical services, assisting with major instrument acquisitions, and managing CREAIT laboratories and research instrumentation.

C-CART provides research support, training, and chemical analysis services to undergraduate and graduate students, university researchers, government agencies, and private sector research and development companies. The instruments in C-CART are grouped into four service areas: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), X-Ray Crystallography, Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Materials Characterization.

DUTIES

Reporting to the Manager of Operations of the CREAIT Network, the Research Laboratory Coordinator I will perform professional and technical work in a research support capacity involving the day-to-day operation of the laboratories in C-CART. Duties include supporting C-CART staff with training (following existing protocols) and overseeing students and other users in multi-user research facilities; scheduling; assisting users with the safe implementation and basic interpretation of experiments; applying existing QA/QC protocols to maintain instruments at optimal performance levels; troubleshooting or repair of instrumentation as directed; preparing samples as well as standard solutions for QA/QC; performing laboratory safety checks; and performing other related duties as required.
